Brave New World with Stephen Hawking: Health

In this 45-minute science documentary television mini-series, the experts examine how scientists are fighting for our survival by battling the world’s big killer diseases. Biologist Aarathi Prasad joins virus hunters in the jungles of Africa, and later meets a woman whose life was saved by a revolutionary new cancer treatment, in which every patient gets an individually-tailored cocktail of drugs. Lord Robert Winston sees how the surgeons of the future could be robots; ethologist Richard Dawkins investigates the way brain disorders could be treated using laser light and genetically modified brain cells; and Reidenberg discovers two possible solutions to the killer disease malaria. At the 38-minute mark, the future of targeted gene therapy is explored.

Brave New World with Stephen Hawking is starred by Professor Stephen Hawking, who examines how science is striving for humankind’s next leap forward. Professor Hawking is joined by a team of scientific experts representing a wide range of disciplines – including Sir David Attenborough, Richard Dawkins, Aarathi Prasad, Lord Winston, Jim Al-Khalili and Maggie Aderin-Pocock – who travel the world in search of the new discoveries they think are the most important and give a glimpse into the future.
